Learn to speak English in San Francisco for free with adults from other countries. Whether you want to learn to speak English to get a job or just so you can talk to your neighbors, there is a great class for you. The Noncredit ESL program helps immigrant students build their skills to speak, listen, read and write in English.
Come to the City College ESL Campus Monday – Friday to get information on their free ESL classes in San Francisco. Beginners do not need to take a test, just stop by Room 104 to find out how to start. Students who know English can take a placement test. The school offers placement tests, on a computer or using pencil and paper, a few times per month.  You can take classes during the fall or spring semester, and even during summer. You’ll find classes available at many different days and times. Fall classes begin in August, spring classes start in January and summer classes start in July. Check the online course catalog under ESL to find a list of times and dates. Besides the main City College campus, you can also take ESL classes at the Chinatown campus, Downtown campus, Evans campus, John Adams campus, Mission campus, Ocean campus and Southeast Campus.
The classes include:

•             Most classes meet 2 hours each day, 5 days a week

•             Programs for high school honor students
Students who want to get a better job can learn how at the ESL Campus. The Social Communication class teaches job skills to ESL Level 5-9 students. You can learn how to write a resume and cover letter, get ready for a job interview, talk to your boss and co-workers and how to write e-mails for work. You’ll also learn how to use computer programs like Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel for work.
San Francisco City College offers these free English classes to help immigrants living and working in San Francisco learn to speak English. After taking these Non-Credit ESL classes, many students go on to study business, computers, hotel management, medicine and other subjects in college.
