Learn English as a Second Language
The English as a Second Language courses are designed to teach English language and civics skills to foreign born non-native English speakers. English as a Second Language ( ESL) courses range from providing basic language and life skills for complete beginners to helping advanced students refine their English in preparation for higher education, vocational training, or a career. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar are included at all levels of instruction. Supplemental ESL classes are available in areas such as conversation, writing, and career development.
- Through ESL courses students are better prepared to live, work and study in this country. Courses are offered at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels and civics.
- Citizenship courses are offered to prepare students for the U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization Examination.
- English as a Second Language courses are for Illinois residents for whom English is not their native language. International students and visitors are not eligible for ESL or other adult education courses.
Registration
English as a Second Language (ESL) placement testing and registration is done by appointment. The placement test for morning, afternoon, evening and Saturday classes is given on several dates during each sixteen-week semester (fourteen weeks in the summer semester). In addition to completing the college. Placement testing appointments are made on a first-served basis.
